Paducah, Ky. – Last month, the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine published a landmark study about mortality patterns among Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant workers. The study, the first of its kind about the Paducah plant, revealed a slightly higher death rate than the national average from certain cancers. Our correspondent Jacque Day read the study. She spoke with the principal investigator and a seasoned plant worker to get a better understanding of the findings, what they reveal, and where they fall short.
Featuring interviews with:
Dr. David Tollerud, the study's principal investigator and chair of the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences at the School of Public Health and Information Sciences, of the University of Louisville
Jim Key, United Steelworkers Local 550 vice president, former union environmental safety and health representative, and 36-year veteran plant worker
