Murray, KY – For most of us, the Internet is not only a source of information, but also a way we communicate with one another, buy things, and pay our bills. That's drawn the attention of advertisers and advertising agencies, a lot of attention, and spurred their efforts to find more ways to find out what you look at online so they can better tailor their ads to what you buy. That, in turn, has put them at odds with online privacy advocates. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Microsoft compromised stringent proposed privacy protections on its latest web browser, Internet Explorer 8, or IE 8, giving advertisers greater access to where we surf. Joining Todd Hatton in the studio to talk more about what this means for the average user is Dr. Michael Bowman, associate professor of telecommunications systems management at Murray State University. He was involved in the development of communications and intelligence systems during his previous career in the US Army.
