Hopkinsville, KY – A local Kentucky history book is nothing new . . . but a history book by a 12-year-old? Darren Shrum recently self-published A Kid's Discovery of His Hometown, an 84-page book about Hopkinsville. The book highlights famous historical landmarks, events, and people.
"Each chapter has an experience," he said. "Like, Edgar Cayce, I learned about a famous man, and in Airplane I flew an actual airplane."
His father, also named Darren, edited the book and accompanied his son throughout his journey through Hopkinsville.
"I wanted him to experience new things and I wanted his writing to improve," he said. "I wanted him to do more than just go to a water park or shoot hoops. I wanted him to really get into exploring and looking at things from a different point of view."
The young author has great ambitions for the book's success.
"I would like to get my book into every waiting room."
