Canton, KY – Close to 75 area residents turned out last night for a public meeting to discuss the widening of US Highway 68/KY 80 through Trigg County. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to reconstruct two miles of the roadway from the end of the Lawrence Memorial Bridge at Canton to near the KY 1489 intersection. Transportation officials plan to use comments from the meeting to tweak the design of the road. This is one of three sections slated for upgrade to four lanes. Transportation spokesman Keith Todd says the legislature has allocated money to purchase right-of-way. He says that could happen as early as the end of this year. Officials estimate the work on the Canton section will cost $8.1 million.
