Murray, KY – Regulating broadband Spreading high speed internet to rural residents through fiber optics is awfully expensive compared to metropolitan areas, simply because of a lower population density. So, without any state or federal mandate, we discuss future broadband companies and if they will make investments in rural areas like our region. A massive broadband expansion project is happening in far Western Kentucky and NW Tennessee. The work is possible thanks in large part to more than 100 million dollars in federal grants and loans. But, with little regulation in the industry and tight budget times will this type of work be possible in the future. Dave Armstrong is the Chairman of Kentucky's Public Service Commission. He was on Murray State's campus this week for a multi-state Telecommunications Summit. Chad Lampe spoke with Armstrong after the summit, here is part of the conversation.
