Murray, KY – We're a little over five weeks away from Halloween, but if you're looking for a good read involving the mysterious and the macabre, may we suggest the book Grim Hymns. The author is Paducah's J.D. Wilkes, although he may be more familiar to you as Colonel J.D. Wilkes, front-man for Those Legendary Shack Shakers and The Dirt Daubers, the band he has with his wife Jessica. Wilkes' stories and illustrations tell stories from around the Jackson Purchase highlighting the more "unusual" parts of our history and folklore. Todd Hatton sat down with J.D. Wilkes to talk about Grim Hymns and his deep affection for the culture these tales sprang from.
Grim Hymns is available online through J.D. Wilkes dot com or through the online bookstore Quimby's. I spoke with Wilkes at his home in McCracken County.
