Murray, KY – Dr. Camille Serre is a working artist and has taught at Murray for 27 years. The Kentucky Art Association recently named her 2011 Art Educator of the year. Serre says she's honored by the award, which came as a complete surprise. Serre has taught art in elementary schools through college as she followed her child's progression through school. She's also published a new book on sculpture. In the work, Dr. Serre instructs the reader to create sculpture from the most common and unique mediums; toilet paper. The choice of medium was in part due to address the lack of funding in art programs across the country and to make art more accessible to students of all ages. WKMS' Drew Adams sat down with Dr. Serre to discuss the award, her love of teaching and her new book, Recipes for Sculpture.
