Madisonville Community College's Glema Mahr Center for the Arts showcases an evening of coffeehouse jazz with the Todd Hill Quintet ahead of a Veteran's Day performance by award-winning stage and screen actor Stephen Lang, which also includes a photo gallery of 100 veterans from local photographer and veteran Jim Pearson. On Sounds Good, Kate Lochte speaks with director Bradley Downall about the upcoming performances.
Glema Center's Coffeehouse series puts the audience on stage in an intimate setting around the musicians. The Todd Hill Quintet performs tomorrow night (Thursday, November 6) at 7:30 p.m. The group takes listeners through a series of popular American jazz tunes.
General admission is $20

On Veterans Day, Glema Center presents Stephen Lang in Beyond Glory at 7:30 p.m. Based on the book detailing the lives of eight medal of honor recipients, actor Stephen Lang (Death of a Salesman, Avatar) portrays each in the telling of their story. Brad Downall says there is some "salty" language. Tickets are $25-$30.
Downall recommends arriving early because on exhibit in the gallery are 100 black and white portraits of Hopkins County veterans, photographed by veteran Jim Pearson (retired from The Messenger Newspaper). Beneath each photograph is a short biography of each veteran. This exhibit opens with a reception at 6 p.m. The exhibit will be on display through December 18. The gallery is open Modays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and open on Saturdays by appointment.
