Honeywell officials say a truck delivering uranium ore caught fire last night outside of their Metropolis facility.

According to Honeywell’s Peter Dalpe, there are no reports that the fire breached the trailer, which was carrying the uranium. Dalpe said in a statement that local firefighters determined the fire started in the tractor’s engine compartment. There were no injuries.

The plant initially declared an alert and notified the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.  They later downgraded the alert to a plant emergency which was lifted around 10:30 p.m.
