Kentucky will receive nearly $800,000 to settle claims against Hyundai and Kia for misrepresenting fuel economy ratings on some vehicles.
Kentucky was one of several states that reached a settlement with the car companies. Attorney General Andy Beshear says the automakers violated the state's Consumer Protection Act. The model years were 2011, 2012 and 2013 vehicles.
Beshear says Hyundai and Kia misled consumers by giving inaccurate data on thousands of cars. The $781,833 settlement will go to the state's General Fund.
As part of a separate class action lawsuit, Hyundai and Kia have already offered restitution totaling $1.1 million to more than 6,300 Kentucky consumers.
In 2012, Hyundai and Kia announced they were adjusting and restating the fuel economy ratings for a number of their vehicles.
