Governor Matt Bevin's Office is announcing the planned purchase of the shuttered Verso Paper Mill. The release from Bevin's office states:
Representatives from Verso Corp., owner of a paper mill in Ballard County that closed two years ago, plan to sign a purchase agreement with a buyer today at the facility. The purchasing company’s executives will outline their plan to reopen the mill, restoring hundreds of jobs in West Kentucky.
County leaders previously said Ballard County would lose $500,000 in payroll taxes from the mill's idling in 2016. A University of Kentucky study estimated a direct economic impact of $301 million to the area.
