A Kentucky economic development program generated $91 million of investment statewide last year, including in three west Kentucky communities.

The Kentucky Heritage Council says the Kentucky Main Street Program created over 1000 jobs and 142 businesses.

Murray program director Deana Wright said Murray Main Street works on historic preservation in the downtown area through design, promotion and business recruitment.

“We’ve also raised over four million dollars for the renovation of the old post office downtown and the streetscape,” she said. “We also run the farmers market and we have for over 20 years.”

Wright said the program in Murray contributed roughly $7 million to the economy last year and reported eleven new businesses. She said they also added 142 jobs.

Murray and Cadiz Main Street programs received national accreditation for 2019. Paducah was downgraded to a participating network program. Cadiz contributed almost $500,000 of investments. Paducah contributed roughly $1.5 million.
