The Murray State University Hutson School of Agriculture announced on Tuesday hemp processing company GenCanna will be its second “foundational partner” for the school’s new Center for Agricultural Hemp.
Lexington-based GenCanna joins CV Sciences as the first two industrial hemp companies to become center partners.
Dean Tony Brannon said their involvement with the center haven’t been hashed out, but said student internships and faculty research are possibilities.
"We want to connect the dots and the many opportunities we have to move this industry forward," Brannon said.
The Hutson School of Agriculture established the center Friday.
GenCanna extracts CBD from hemp and is building a hemp processing facility in nearby Mayfield that officials say could process up to 10,000 acres of the plant. The company is also approved for a facility in Paducah.
