Murray Art Guild Fall 2022 Workshops

The Murray Art Guild hosts a wide range of classes taught by local artists, including Afterschool youth classes, Preschool Messy Friday & Whirl, and adult classes in Multimedia, Repeat Patterns, Drawing, Life Drawing, Art Journaling, Clay Handbuilding & Pit Firing, Enameling and Seasonal Screenprinting.

Monday evenings starting September 12th for teens and adults:
“One Thing Leads to Another: Exploring the repeating pattern,” taught by local artist, Anne Beyer. Beyer is a local ceramicist and art educator, with her teaching experience extending to schools like Paducah School of Art & Design and Penland School of Craft. In this class participants will explore how to make their own repeating pattern; they will then create a carved stamp, and using fabric paint, stamp a tea towel with their own unique design. Classes begin Monday evenings in September, starting September 12th, from 6:00 to 9:00pm, for older teens and adults. No experience is necessary. Tuesday evenings in September for teens and adults:
“Go With the Flow: Creative exercises in independent practice,” taught by local artist, Anne Beyer. Beyer is a local ceramicist and art educator, with her teaching experience extending to schools like Paducah School of Art & Design and Penland School of Craft. In this class participants will experiment with different drawing, painting, and collaging techniques, culminating in a simple book. Classes begin Tuesday evenings in September from 6:00 to 9:00pm, for older teens and adults. No experience is necessary.

September 30th and October 1st for ages 16 and older:
MAG Community Art Center presents a beginning drawing class by local artist, Michelle Swayne, for ages 16 to adult, on September 30th, 6:00 to 8:00pm and October 1st, 10:00am to 4:00pm. This will be a two-part workshop with Friday evening as a short demo time, plus a Saturday class. Students will work with pencil and charcoal, while learning to see shape in light and dark. They will also identify shape shadow from cast shadow, study subtle muted gradations, and make the form “sit’ in real space. No experience is necessary! October, times TBD, for ages 16 and older:
MAG Community Art Center presents a Pit Fire class this October by local artist, Anne Beyer, for ages 16 to adult. Students will experience every part of the ceramic process in this exciting pit fire workshop. Using hand building techniques of pinching, coiling and slab assembly, students will create a variety of forms and experiment with different surface designs. By loading and prepping the pieces for firing, students will see and learn how fire and temperature create different finishes.
