They influence our decisions without us knowing it. They numb our senses without us feeling it. They control our lives without us realizing it. They live. John Carpenter, who has ties to western Kentucky, is the director behind some of the best-made films in horror and sci-fi — Halloween, The Thing, and Escape From New York, among many others. They Live represents Carpenter at perhaps his most satirical and his funniest — a film aimed squarely at the Reagan White House and the sense of increasing commercialization in both the popular culture and politics Carpenter associated with it.
The Paducah Film Society is Maiden Alley Cinema's own monthly movie club, screening classic, cult, and foreign films in western Kentucky. PFS is supported by Maiden Alley Cinema, WKMS, and local donors.
