Hopkins County 7th and 8th graders are getting an education in renewable energies as part of the state sponsored "Career Craze" program.
Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Jerry Abramson kicked off the event at Madisonville Community College today. Abramson urged the students to start preparing for college early and highlighted the importance of the state community college system.
MCC Workforce Development Liaison Paula Pendergrass said it’s the first time Madisonville has hosted Career Craze.
She outlined the four day event.
“They will build an energy kit each day and study that particular area of energy," said Pendergrass. "Today it was hydro-power, tomorrow it will be solar power, Thursday wind, and then of course Friday we will be taking the students to visit Big River to see the traditional coal energy plant.”
Pendergrass said a lot of supplies funding comes through the Lieutenant Governor’s office. Instructors are Advance Integration Technology engineers volunteering their time. Pendergrass hopes the program will encourage students to consider community and technical colleges as viable options before entering the workforce.
