Graves County Schools Declares Cuba Elementary as Surplus Property

Despite pleas from community members the Graves County Board of Education has declared Cuba Elementary School surplus property to be sold in a public auction.

The board decided to close the school in December due to low enrollment, which never exceeded 200 students in the last seven years.

Graves County Schools Community Relations Director Paul Schaumburg says that Cuba’s 150 students will integrate into Wingo and Sedalia elementary schools at the beginning of the next school year.

The district’s chief financial officer R.B. Mays says the property was valued at approximately $62,000 which the school expects to receive through auction. Mays says the district won’t set a date for the auction until this school year ends.  The building officially closes June 30th.
