A Conversation with Dr. Bob Davies, Murray State's Next President

Coming from the West, Dr. Robert O. "Bob" Davies assumes the presidency of Murray State University this July. Dr. Davies and his sister thought of themselves as "university brats" growing up. Kate Lochte speaks with Davies about his family and his experiences interviewing for his new job, from his office at EOU.

The Board of Regents of Murray State University recently named Dr. Davies as the institution's 13th President after a whirlwind round of meetings with campus and community representatives. Dr. Davies earned his Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Buffalo of the State University of New York and his MBA from the University of Oregon. His bachelor's degree in business is from the University of Nevada, Reno.

When he assumed the presidency of Eastern Oregon University in 2009, Dr. Davies engaged a campus facing budget cuts much like Murray State is currently, and he has written about that campus' successful emergence from that process in an online series titled: Presidential Perspectives (pdf).

Davies begins his tenure on July 14. He is working with Murray State's 12th President, Dr. Tim Miller, to plan his introduction to campus and the region. Vice President of Institutional Advancement Jim Carter is overseeing scheduling of regional and community events during the beginning of the Davies' presidency, working with Senior Executive Coordinator for the President Jill Hunt, who continues to oversee scheduling campus events.
