Judge Denies Request to Stop UofL Board from Acting on Budget

A judge has denied a request to stop the University of Louisville board of trustees from taking action on its budget.

The Kentucky Justice Resource Center filed a motion for a temporary restraining order late Wednesday night asking a judge to prevent the board from taking significant actions during its scheduled meeting on Thursday because it does not have enough racial minorities as members.

But the board has been in legal limbo ever since Republican Gov. Matt Bevin abolished the old board and replaced it with a new board.

Franklin Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd blocked that new board from meeting last month, and the old board scheduled a meeting for Thursday to deal with the budget and authorize a bond payment, among other matters.
