Tornado Watch Tonight, Isolated Severe Showers Possible

Update 6:00 pm:

Main power restored to Murray State campus. We were off the air briefly this afternoon due to storms and on a backup generator shortly thereafter.

Our live broadcast tonight from the Pennington Folk Festival featuring Rhonda Vincent and the Rage is still scheduled to broadcast at 8 pm.

Most of our listening area is under a tornado watch until midnight. Scattered thunderstorms are possible tonight, with a chance for some isolated showers to be severe. Potentially damaging winds and heavy rain is also possible. There's a small chance of showers Sunday, before a gradual increase through mid week.

Be cautious driving today as torrential rainfall has caused some areas of flooding, and strong winds may have downed power lines and tree limbs, or moved debris onto the roads.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
