Interactive Map Highlights Water Districts with Conditions for High Levels of Lead

Sarah Frostenson, Rad Cunninghnam, Washington State Department of Health

Murray, Mayfield, Paducah, Hopkinsville and Clarksville lead urban centers in the Four Rivers Region for possible lead contamination according to a new online map

In the wake of the Flint, Michigan water crisis, online news aggregator Vox developed the interactive map highlighting water districts across the U-S with conditions for high levels of lead concentration. Created in conjunction with the Washington State Department of Health, the map scales risk from one to ten.

While high-rankings do not necessarily mean confirmed cases of lead poisoning, environmental risk factors and population could lead to contamination.

The map uses U-S Census housing and poverty data to show areas of risk.
