Update: Amounts allocated to regional counties added.

Approximately $1.06 million dollars in grant funding is going to aid cleanup efforts of illegal dumps in the Commonwealth, including four counties in far western Kentucky.

Energy and Environment Secretary Charles Snavely said in a release Monday the award will help clean up 112 dumps in 25 counties including Calloway, Christian, Todd and Trigg.

Per Lisa Evans of the Division of Waste Management:

  • Calloway --     $16,717.40
  • Christian --      $  7,874.33 (Reimbursement)
  • Trigg --            $  1,200.00
  • Todd --            $  2,200.00

In order to receive the funding, counties must match 25% of the grant amount. EEC may waive the match should an individual dump cost more than 50-thousand dollars to remediate. The funding for the Illegal Open Dump Grant program comes from the Kentucky Pride Fund.
Revenue is generated through a $1.75 environmental remediation fee for each ton of garbage disposed at Kentucky municipal solid waste disposal facilities.
