Paducah’s Health Park has nearly completed the first phase of a two-part construction effort.

The park opened to the public on June 16and offers a walking trail, fitness area and playground. City Parks Director Mark Thompson said minor changes are needed to complete phase one, including finishing concrete work and checking electrical boxes.

The first phase cost nearly 700,000 dollars in grants and donations. Phase two will total an upwards of $900,000 and will include a restroom facility, an expanded fitness area, a multi-purpose plaza and a spray pad. Thompson said the department is hoping to start phase two this year and is working to get funding.

A ribbon cutting for the first phase is on August 1.
