KY Joins Amgen Settlement

Kentucky is joining other states and the federal government in a $614 million settlement with drug manufacturer Amgen to resolve its illegal marketing practices. Attorney General Jack Conway says Kentucky will receive more than $1.1 million in the settlement. After reimbursing the federal government, the state’s Medicaid program will retain almost $314,000. The states and federal government are accusing Amgen of illegally marketing and promoting drugs like Aransep, Epogen and Enbrel for uses that are not medically accepted. Amgen also paid illegal kickbacks to physicians and other medical providers. This is the second time Conway has recovered money from Amgen.

Whitney grew up listening to Car Talk to and from her family’s beach vacation each year, but it wasn’t until a friend introduced her to This American Life that radio really grabbed her attention. She is a recent graduate from Union University in Jackson, Tenn., where she studied journalism. When she’s not at WKMS, you can find her working on her backyard compost pile and garden, getting lost on her bicycle or crocheting one massive blanket.
