Daley to Decide on 2014 Illinois Governor Bid

The race for Illinois governor is more than a year away, but former White House chief of staff Bill Daley says he’ll decide in the next week whether he’ll run.

The Chicago Democrat says he is talking with potential contributors to decide whether he’ll challenge Gov. Pat Quinn in the Democratic primary.

Daley has called this legislation “a debacle” saying that Quinn should have done more to resolve some of Illinois’ major issues. The legislature adjourned Friday without fixing the almost $100 billion pension crisis or passing legislation to expand gambling. A bill that would allow gay marriage also failed.

Daley, whose father and brother were both Chicago mayors, says Illinois is “stumbling our way toward a very bad situation.”

He says he’s not concerned about whether Attorney General Lisa Madigan also plans a Democratic primary bid. The list of interested Republicans includes Illinois treasurer Dan Rutherford, state senators Bill Brady and Kirk Dillard and venture capitalist Bruce Rauner.
