Most Kentucky counties are now accepting absentee ballots for the upcoming May primary. Those unable to make it to the polls in person may vote in this manner. Citizens can mail in or deliver their ballot to their local clerk’s office.
Secretary of State Spokesman Bradford Queen says absentee votes made up a significant number of votes in 2012 state elections.
“In the general election, we had about 105,000 people cast absentee ballots. That year was about 6 percent of the turnout in the general,” Queen said.
“In the primary that year, we had close to 18,500 folks cast absentee ballots and for the primary, that was just about under 4.5 percent of the total turnout.”
The deadline to submit an in-person absentee vote is May 19th and the application deadline for mail in ballots is May 8th. Primary election kicks off May 20th followed by the general election in November.
