NWS: Impending Thunderstorms Expected to Enter Listening Area Midday Wednesday

The National Weather Service in Paducah is calling for thunderstorms to arrive in our listening area from the west tomorrow with some having a chance to become severe.

NWS Meteorologist Rick Shanklin says they’re now watching the weather over Kansas and Missouri in anticipation of developing storm systems.

“What happens there is gonna be the same system that moves across our region on Wednesday. It will be modified somewhat from that but it is the greatest risk of severe weather that we’ve seen in the last few weeks. It’s definitely one you want to stay on top of.”

Tonight there’s a slight chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms before 7. Tomorrow, storms are expected around midday through the evening with locally heavy rain and frequent lightning. Some storms may bring damaging winds and large hail. Shanklin says the chance of tornadoes cannot be ruled out. The chance of storms and showers will continue through the rest of the week.

“With the dynamics of this system, we’ve got strong wind fields, which getting into June is a little unusual to have, along with a lot of instability across the area,” said Shanklin. “Definitely tomorrow will be a day to stay abreast of the weather, listen for watches and if any warnings are issued, be prepared to take action.”
