The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has awarded a major contract to bring I-69 closer to reality in Hopkins, Webster and Henderson counties.
The $11.93 million contract for Louisville-based Hall Contracting of Kentucky, Inc. pays for required improvements to bring a 36-mile stretch of the Breathitt-Pennyrile Parkway up to interstate standards.
The project includes pavement rehabilitation, new lighting and widening overpass bridges.
The project has a completion date of August 1, 2015.
Earlier this year, the KYTC awarded a $30 million contract for I-69 improvements in Hopkins County.
About 55 miles of the I-69 corridor have been completed thus far. When complete, I-69 will run in Kentucky from the Ohio River at Henderson to the Tennessee border in Fulton.
