Kenlake State Resort Park is re-purposing its old golf course to open a 3D archery course offering visitors a chance to test their bowman skills.
Kentucky Parks Spokesman Gil Lawson says the state closed the nine-hole Bill Hamrick Memorial Golf Course early last year after factoring in a review of ground maintenance costs and low usage.
“It was one of the least used courses in our state park system and the cost of running it and the low revenues were factors in deciding to close it," said Lawson. "But this is the first 3-D archery course that we’ve opened up and you don’t have to maintain greens like you have to for the golf course. We can let grass grow in a more natural setting as opposed to a golf course, so it will be less to maintain.”
The course will feature a paved walkway leading to 30 realistic targets at varying distances for all skill levels.
Lawson says the course was designed for use in tournaments leagues but will also be available to park guests during daylight hours year round.
Day passes can be purchased from the Kenlake Hotel and will be $12 for adults and $5 for kids. Season passes will also be available. Archers will need to supply their own bows and arrows.
A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held August 30th at 10 A.M. at the former pro shop. The course will be open for free on opening day.
