Murray Mayor-elect Jack Rose has several large projects he plans to tackle once he begins his first term, including expanding the city’s wastewater capacity and rebuilding downtown.
Rose says the largest project for the city monetarily is updates to the sewer system that the Environmental Protection Agency has mandated. The project includes four different updates at Bee Creek and Clarks River with an estimated cost of $50 million, $13 million more than the initial estimate.
“We’re working hard to determine how we can reduce the cost some without reducing the quality of the operation.,” Rose said.
Talks about the expansion that would increase Murray’s wastewater capacity have been underway since 2011.
Rose also plans on making City Hall a one-stop shop, especially for new small businesses. He says he wants the many offices there to work together and more efficiently.
“When someone comes in here with a business or industry idea that we do everything we can, and that may even result in sometimes sitting down and really helping them complete some of the paperwork, go through some of the regulations with them,”Rose said. “But I want those projects in and out.”
Rose added that he is prioritizing rebuilding downtown and meeting with property owners there after the past year’s fire and collapses.
