Rupp Arena Renovations Could Appear on 2015 Legislative Agenda

Funding for the makeover of Lexington's Rupp Arena could be a topic of conversation during the upcoming 2015 session of the Kentucky General Assembly, so says Madison County Senator Jared Carpenter.

Efforts during the previous term to secure $80 million dollars in state funds for the Rupp project were unsuccessful.  Carpenter believes the matter could surface during the upcoming short session.

"I think the folks that work with the downtown development for Rupp Arena and in Lexington have used the ideas that we had, some of the conversations we had at the last session and I think they're putting some stuff together where I'm sure it will come up," said Carpenter. "I'm not sure where it will go, but I'm sure it's a discussion that we're gonna have, especially considering how well the basketball team is doing at UK."

Carpenter is a former college basketball player.

Palumbo is doubtful the Rupp issue will be on legislators' radar in February.

"Well, this is not a budget session coming up and so, I really don't think there will be discussion about Rupp."

The 2015 legislative session begins Jan 6.
