The Paducah City Commission approved a 2016 budget of more than $77 million Tuesday night.

City manager Jeff Pederson said he appreciated working with the commission and department heads on the budget.

“Again, it’s a major undertaking at all levels in the organization. I think we had a lot of good discussion, especially around a lot of project needs, he says,” Pederson said.

Revenue is only expected to increase by $90,000 this year while appropriations from the General Fund are around $32 million. The main operating fund for the city is the general fund.

Payroll, insurance premium, business license and property taxes are sources of revenue for the budget. Operations are funded through investment, police and fire pension, solid waste, fleet lease trust and health insurance funds in addition to the general fund.

The city is working on several projects that include the riverfront development, Olivet Church Road expansion and the renovation or construction of a new city hall.

The fiscal year begins July 1.
