City of Murray director of finance Alan Lanier resigned Thursday, Mayor Jack Rose confirms.
Lanier's resignation was effective immediately. Rose held a meeting Thursday with the city's finance department to address the finance director’s duties while the job is vacant. Rose says he, human resources director Cathy Morris and accounting manager Kim Wyatt will share the workload for the time being.
Rose said the position will be advertised and filled, unlike the city administrator position, which was eliminated altogether earlier this year with Matt Mattingly’s firing.
Rose would not elaborate on the circumstances surrounding Lanier’s resignation. Lanier emailed WKMS with a short statement.
"I resigned my position with the City yesterday. I'm grateful for my time there and look forward to exploring new opportunities," Lanier said.
Rose said there is not yet a timeframe for when the finance director position will be filled. The job will pay somewhere between $57,000 and $96,000, based on candidates' experience.
