Heavy rain is expected to impact parts of western Kentucky and southern Illinois over the next two days with some areas under a flash flood warning.
National Weather Service forecasters in Paducah say a large scale storm system will enter our region tonight, bringing around 3 inches of rain with some areas seeing 4 to 5 inches.
Rain, and possibly thunderstorms, is expected to hang around through midday Wednesday. The NWS warns the accumulation may overwhelm storm drains and gutters. They say saturated grounds may result in rapid runoff and flash flooding.
NWS officials advise drivers use extreme caution and to “turn around and don’t drown” when approaching flooded roadways.
