Fort Campbell is the U.S. Army’s Best Installation of 2016. The base received its first Gold Award in the Installation Management Command’s Army Communities of Excellence competition for supporting soldiers, families, and surrounding communities.
Fort Campbell Director of Public Affairs Bob Jenkins says the award was the result of a community-wide effort.
“Whether it’s medical services or training services or personnel services or whatever, everybody’s working with the same goal in mind, and that’s providing the best possible service to our soldiers and their families,” Jenkins said.
Jenkins says he thinks it’s no surprise Fort Campbell won Gold after high turnout at last year’s community listening session, when 1,500 area residents gathered to voice concerns over a potential personnel cut of 16,000. Last July, the Army announced it would only cut 363 soldiers from the base.
Since 2010, Fort Campbell has earned one Bronze and three Silver awards in the Army Communities of Excellence competition.
