The project aimed at creating a vast fiber optic network to spread high-speed internet throughout Kentucky has run into delays.

The slowdown is due mainly to delays in reaching agreements to attach fiber optic cables to existing utility poles.

Executive Director of the Kentucky Communications Network Authority Chris Moore says completion of the project's first phase could be delayed 10 to 12 months.

The authority oversees and maintains the project, known as KentuckyWired.

Moore predicts the first phase could go online in the third quarter of 2017. He says the entire project could be completed in early 2019, about four to eight months later than anticipated.

Due to the delays, Moore says the project won't generate revenues in the current fiscal year.
