Pay Raises for Social Workers This Fall

More than 3,700 Kentucky social workers and those in Family Support will see an increase in pay, effective next month.

The $4.8 million appropriation in the current two year state budget also impacts corrections workers.

The additional pay is viewed by those in state government administration as an effort to retain and recruit social workers.

Cabinet for Health and Family Services Secretary Vickie Yates Brown Glisson says it’s for new hires, but also carries a ‘career ladder’ intent for existing employees.  She hopes more salary increases can follow.

“I see this as a very significant first step to try to get that done,"  said Glisson. "Hopefully, this will be the first step in continuing to try to have pay raises."

Beginning this week, new corrections officers hired at Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center and Central State Hospital will see salaries 13 percent higher than previous entry pay.
