New House Speaker Hoover Says Biggest Job is 'Managing Expectations'

LRC Public Information

Kentucky's first Republican House speaker in nearly 100 years says his biggest job will be managing the expectations of the state's restless GOP leaders - starting with the governor.

Jeff Hoover says the state's first Republican-controlled government will act swiftly to pass a right-to-work bill and anti-abortion legislation, but indicated he would move carefully on other topics including tax reform and a ban on transgender bathroom use as he seeks to manage an unpredictable caucus through an unprecedented transition.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
