The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has plans in place to fix some of the problems with the state’s roads and bridges. The American Society of Civil Engineers issued a new infrastructure report card last week showing that the state has more than one thousand structurally deficient bridges.
Ryan Watts is a spokesperson for the cabinet. He says a $38 million maintenance project on the Brent Spence bridge in northern Kentucky begins this summer. Watts says the report confirms much of what is already known about the condition of infrastructure in Kentucky.
Watts says a project is underway to widen I-75 in Rockcastle County from four to six lanes. The ASCE reports Kentucky motorists are paying $331 on average a year for driving on roads in need of repair. That’s down from the $391 reported in the 2013 report.
