The Murray City Council will hear a committee presentation Thursday night to consider moving forward with the implementation of a city payroll tax.
Mayor’s Committee to Review Needs, Expenditures and Revenue Sources chair Dan Miller said a payroll tax will bring in more revenue than city stickers and will be easier to enforce.
The Murray-Calloway Chamber of Commerce has opposed the tax, citing that many of their members had concerns about implementation and privacy.
The Calloway County Fiscal Courtapproved a resolution earlier this month calling for the city council to place the proposal on the ballot in the next general election.
A public comment period will follow the committee’s presentation. The meeting begins at 6:30.
