Barlow-based business owner Desiree Owen is running as a Democrat for Kentucky’s District One State Representative seat.
Owen said she decided to run because she felt the district needed leadership in Frankfort. Republican Steven Rudy currently holds the seat. Owen said if elected she plans to improve infrastructure and create jobs.
“The area has suffered a lot of job losses in the last few years,” Owen said. “Our paper mill closed here throwing several hundred out of work and we’ve lost jobs from the USEC plant. So we desperately need to create some more economic opportunity.”
Owen said infrastructure and education are “budgetary concerns” that can be fixed through funding. She said she would defend state workers and their pension plans.
District One includes Ballard, Fulton, Hickman and Carlisle counties and part of McCracken County. Owen faces Republican incumbent Steven Rudy for the seat.
