Mayfield City Council Passes First Reading of Food Truck Ordinance

MATT MARKGRAF, WKMS

The Mayfield City Council passed the first reading of a food truck ordinance this week that expands rules for operation within the city.

The ordinance passed in an unanimous vote on Monday. The vote on amendments passed eight to two.

Mayfield City Clerk Tamie Johnson said one amendment sets guidelines that allow trucks to operate in private locations for 14 consecutive days and seven in public areas. Another amendment removed the word “business” from a section regarding noise from truck motors and generators. The sentence now reads, “Generators shall not be permitted within 100 feet of a residence.”

The ordinance aims to promote job creation and offer more diversified dining options.

A second reading is scheduled for the next city council meeting on March 12th.
