Princeton Musician Runs For First Congressional District Seat

Alonzo Pennington Facebook page

A musician from Princeton is running as a Democrat for the First District congressional seat in west Kentucky.

Pennington said his career as musician has given him a chance to know people across the region.

He said he will focus on infrastructure, jobs and the opioid crisis. The latter, he said, has affected a large number of people in the region.

“I’ve watched friends and people I’ve known my entire life just have their lives torn apart and have their family’s lives torn apart because they have this disease known as addiction.”

Pennington said he would give those addicted better access to treatment and boost funding for law enforcement.

Pennington said he can reach the district’s largely conservative population by setting politics aside and working across the aisle.

“That’s where I’m at, I’m willing to work with a Republican. You know somebody who is willing to meet me in the middle somewhere. It’s never going to be all one way or the other, you have to meet in the middle to find that common ground.” Pennington said.

Pennington faces Murray State professor Paul Walker in the May primary. The winner of that primary faces incumbent Republican James Comer.
