Mayfield Passes Second Reading Of Food Truck Ordinance, Will Be Law

MATT MARKGRAF, WKMS

The Mayfield City Council unanimously passed an ordinance expanding food truck operations on Monday.

The ordinance allows for Mobile Food Vehicles to operate under specific guidelines in an effort to promote job growth and offer more diversified dining options.

Trucks must operate in certain zones at certain times. Trucks will be allowed to operate in private locations for 14 consecutive days and seven in public areas.

City Clerk Tamie Johnson says an amendment was added in the noise section to not allow generators within 100 feet of a ‘building.’ The section also won’t allow for trucks to use horns, music or other sounds to attract customers. Strobe lights and other flashing lights are also prohibited.

The ordinance does not apply to ice-cream trucks that move from place to place. It also doesn’t apply to food vending push carts or stands.

The ordinance goes into effect on March 16.
