Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin has appointed the state’s Labor Cabinet secretary as the Secretary of the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.
Bevin said Tuesday that Derrick Ramsey will be responsible for educating, preparing, and training the state’s current and future workforce.
Ramsey fills a vacancy left by Hal Heiner who resigned in April to join the Kentucky Board of Education. Ramsey has served as labor secretary for more than two years.
The cabinet oversees the administration of worker compensation and workplace standard laws.
Ramsey and other cabinet officials have toured the commonwealthpromoting apprenticeships programs in an effort to bolster workforce training.
Cabinet Deputy Secretary Mike Nemes will serve as acting Labor Secretary.
Bevin said he is directing Ramsey to work with Nemes and Public Protection Cabinet Secretary David Dickerson to explore efficiencies among the three cabinets.
