The Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky has named Paducah Mayor Brandi Harless a Healthy Kentucky Policy Champion for enacting a stronger smoke-free ordinance in the city.
The award recognizes individuals and organizations who change policies to improve the health of Kentuckians. In April, the city commission expanded a smoking ban ordinance to include public and private places of employment.
The award also makes Harless a candidate for the Healthy Kentucky Policy Champion of the Year award, which comes with a $5,000 grant from the Foundation to the winner’s Kentucky-based nonprofit of choice. The winner of that award will be announced on Sept. 24 at a Health Policy Forum in Lexington.
