Tennessee Attorney General Herbert Slatery has tapped Jonathan T. Skrmetti as his new chief deputy.

A news release from Slatery's team says Skrmetti will coordinate and oversee legal work in all five sections of the office.

Skrmetti has been a partner with Butler Snow LLP, an adjunct law school professor at the University of Memphis and an assistant federal prosecutor who focused on civil rights crimes and white-collar offenses.

He also was a U.S. Department of Justice trial attorney, a special assistant in the United States attorney's office in Washington and a clerk for the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Skrmetti graduated from Harvard Law School and has degrees from George Washington University and the University of Oxford.
