A proposed plan to expand and renovate the Calloway County Public Library will be discussed at a special called meeting Tuesday. The agenda for the meeting said the board will discuss the plan created by Louisville-based 5253 Design Group with head architect Chris Cottongim.
The proposed $6.4 million dollar expansion was first suggested in 2016 and has been the source of contention between local elected officials and board members. Former Judge Executive Larry Elkins has been critical of the expansion and accused the library of frivolous spending since the plan’s proposal.
Three board members resigned after the board voted to move forward with the project in April 2018. Board members appointed in their leave have proposed moving the library into the former Regions Bank building in downtown Murray as a cheaper alternative to 5253’s plan.
The special called meeting will begin at 4:30 p.m. followed by the regularly scheduled meeting.
