Public Invited to Give Input on Kentucky’s Foster Care System

  The Local Citizen Foster Care Review Boards will hosts meetings that are virtually open to the public to discuss how to improve the foster care system in Kentucky.  Feedback from the meetings will be used when making recommendations to the governor, legislature, and Supreme Court of Kentucky.

A press release issued by the Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) states participants will discuss House Bill 1 reforms which address issues with foster care and adoption. Participants are required to register ahead of time. The meeting for western Kentucky counties is Oct. 13 at 10:30 a.m. 

 

The press release from the AOC states discussions will include family preservation, services for reuniting families, foster parent rights and racial and ethnic disparities in the foster system. The event will also cover support for relatives and family friends who serve as caregivers.

 

According to the release, volunteers with Kentucky’s Citizen Foster Care Review Boards reviewed 27,530 cases involving 13,737 children in out-of-home care during the fiscal year 2019
