A Calloway County food service employee tested positive for COVID-19 and as a result, school officials said they’ve delayed meal distribution until April 20.
School officials report the employee’s test returned positive April 9, and the individual was last at work on April 3 and has reportedly been practicing self quarantine since that day. Calloway County Superintendent Tres Settle said in a press release he is “certain that all recommended safety protocol was followed and that risk of transmission to students and staff was minimal”.
In an effort to further protect all employees and students, Settle said, the food service in Calloway County Schools will be suspended April 13- April 17. Meal distribution is planned to resume April 20.
Calloway County School Food Services employees plan to spend the next week cleaning food preparation areas. And With the suspension of the program this coming week, the Calloway County Food Services will have completed a 14-day quarantine as recommended by the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
“I understand the fears, questions, and anxiety that each positive case brings to us, which is why I am being proactive in this decision,” Settle said. “I also remind everyone that as school district employees we are considered an essential service; just as are our health-care workers, first responders, grocery store workers, etc. I know that these are scary times, which is why we continue to take these additional safety precautions.”
Employees who have not been directly contacted by the health department are to report to work April 13.
